Individual investors jumping into energy stocks

The Energy Sector makes up 21% of my total portfolio.

On Monday, retail investors purchased a net $340 million of U.S.-listed energy stocks and exchange-traded funds, the most in one day in VandaTrack data going back to 2014.

Over the five trading days through Tuesday, they bought a net $122.05 million of Chevron Corp. shares and a net $88.79 million of Occidental Petroleum Corp. shares, according to VandaTrack.

Energy is the only S&P 500 sector in positive territory for 2022. The group is up 36% for the year, compared to a decline of 11% for the broad U.S. stock index. The sector pulled back Wednesday morning, falling 2.3%, as oil declined in daily trading.
